Phoenix Mercury sign forward Reshanda Gray, guard Jennie Simms

June 28, 2022 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM

The Phoenix Mercury announced a pair of roster moves ahead of Monday night’s game against the Indiana Fever.

Forward Reshanda Gray and guard Jennie Simms were signed by the team and both will be available for the 7 p.m. tip-off at Footprint Center.

The 6-foot-2 Gray will don the No. 12 on her jersey, while Simms will rock No. 25.

Simms is returning to the Valley after spending six games with the Mercury earlier this season where the guard averaged 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.5 minutes.

Gray is in her sixth WNBA season after being drafted No. 16 overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2015 WNBA Draft out of Cal, which included being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year by the conference’s coaches her senior year.

The forward played in 11 games for the Seattle Storm earlier this season, averaging 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in that span.

Gray has also spent time with the Atlanta Dream, New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks while pacing 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 125 games in her career (16 starts).

The two roster moves come following the contract divorce between the Mercury and center Tina Charles on Saturday.

“After discussions with Tina and her agent, it was best for both parties to go our separate ways at this time,” Phoenix general manager Jim Pitman said in a statement.

“Due to circumstances both in and out of our control, our season has not gone according to our plan, and we will continue to pursue all avenues for improvement.”
