Who’s available, who’s needed, and what it could cost.
With the NBA draft being concluded, the offseason is just getting started. The Phoenix Suns were arguably the most aggressive team in the 2025 NBA Draft in terms of trades and making sure they got the guys they wanted. With all that being said, if you ask a Phoenix Suns fan about the roster as of this moment they will tell you that the Suns have terrible roster construction and are screwed.
The good part about that is that it’s only June, and the NBA offseason hasn’t fully gotten underway. So here are 3 trade targets that would put the Suns in the right direction in competing.
Marcus Smart
When you look at the Suns’ roster, one thing stands out, and that thing is that the Suns’ point guard depth is pretty much non-existent.
Marcus Smart helps provide that depth that the Suns are looking for. Smart is a seasoned veteran who has played winning basketball for one of the premier teams in the NBA with the Boston Celtics. With the Suns looking to go younger, Smart might not fit the agenda, but with a team with a lot of youth, a veteran presence like Smart might be beneficial alongside Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks.

Smart could help impact the Suns on and off the court in many ways.
With the Suns adding more gritty defenders on this roster, a player like Marcus Smart would mesh perfectly. Smart’s playmaking would also be a big impact as he can ease the load on Devin Booker when it comes to getting others involved.
When you have a guy like Booker that can score in a phone booth, you want him to have one focus and one focus only, and that’s putting the orange ball through the basket.
Smart is also a player who doesn’t need the ball to impact the game, which is probably the most important part of his game.
Now, the main reason I added Smart to this list wasn’t just because of his skills. Smart would be an impact for the Suns before even getting on a flight to Sky Harbor. The Suns have been working the phones 24/7, trying to find ways to offload Bradley Beal. I was told by sources that one of the few teams Brad would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to would be the Washington Wizards.
So here’s a deal to get Smart, assuming Beal would waive that NTC to go back to Washington:
Wizards Receive:
- Bradley Beal
- 2032 2nd via PHX
- 2030 2nd via BOS
Suns Receive
- Marcus Smart
- Khris Middleton
In a trade package like this, Brad would get what he wants in returning to Washington, and the Suns get what they want in a point guard and more wing depth with Khris Middleton.
Although it isn’t 2021 anymore, Smart and Middleton can still be worth some value to the Suns. With the limited options of moving Beal, you basically take what you can get at this point and call it a wash. He holds the cards, and the Suns got to know when to hold them and to fold them; the best thing would be to walk away and let the dealing be done.
Coby White
With the Bulls moving Lonzo Ball recently to the Cleveland Cavaliers, you have to wonder if the Bulls are entertaining the Idea of moving both guards this offseason. It was reported during the draft that the Bulls were interested in moving Lonzo and Coby before they made their pick at 12 on draft night.

Coby White brings a unique aspect to this Suns team, and his youth might fit the timeline of this current Suns team compared to other available options on the market.
Offensively, Coby can create his shot at the rim, mid-range, and from beyond the arc. This past season, White averaged 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while shooting 45.3% from the field and 37% from three. On the offensive side of the ball, White is still growing his game as he is only 25 years old. After averaging 9.7 points in the 2022-23 season, White took a leap these past two seasons in averaging 19.1 points in 2023-24 and 20.4 points this past season.
While it appears he has had an increased role these past couple of seasons, one issue that sticks out is averaging 2.4 turnovers a game this past season. If the Suns were to trade for White, I personally wouldn’t be worried about that issue carrying on with the Suns, as the offensive play will probably be more consistent and clean compared to playing with a bunch of younger guys also trying to find themselves within this league.
Jordan Ott might be a fan favorite of White, and he would excel in Ott’s system. It appears Ott is trying to have that same combo guard backcourt like he had in Cleveland with Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. White, also standing at 6’5”, has a strong handle and can shadow both guard positions.
His length as a guard would probably be more beneficial for the Suns compared to other guards on the market who are smaller. Now, one thing for me personally that piques my interest in Coby is his youth and upside. White has shown flashes these past two seasons of what he can bring to the court. I think he just needs to be a part of a franchise that is serious about winning an NBA title.
When it comes to the trade package, there are a couple of routes the Suns could dabble in:
Suns Receive:
- Coby White
Bulls Receive:
- Grayson Allen
- 2032 2nd via PHX
- 2032 2nd via HOU
- 2030 2nd via BOS
Considering that the Bulls just traded Lonzo Ball for Issac Okoro, I’m slightly skeptical of how much the Bulls value White in a deal, but I feel Grayson Allen and some picks could get the deal done. Maybe a third team gets in the mix and sends more picks to the Bulls to sweeten the deal. I feel this scenario isn’t so far-fetched, but I could see how some people view this as unrealistic.
How about another one?
Suns Receive:
- Coby White
- Patrick Williams
- Zach Collins
Bulls Receive:
- Bradley Beal
- Immanuel Quickly
- Jonathan Mogbo
- 2027 FRP via CLE, UTAH or MIN
Raptors Receive:
- Nikola Vučević
- Kevin Huerter
- 2032 2nd Via PHX
- 2032 2nd Via HOU
- 2030 2nd via BOS
In this trade, Phoenix moves off of Beal’s contract and acquires White and two players who could be valuable depth in the rotation.
Chicago gets to move off of Patrick Williams’ contract after not living up to what they paid him. Chicago also gets to finally move off of Vučević after trying to shop him at the deadline and offseason for multiple years now.
Toronto acquires another center after passing on Khaman Mauluach in the 2025 NBA Draft. Toronto also gets a shooter in Kevin Huerter and maybe with these moves they can get get a add point guard depth in free agency and find a way into the playoffs with players like RJ Barrett, Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and Nikola Vučević.
Johnathan Issac
With the Phoenix Suns not having definite power forward depth, I feel a guy like Jonathan Issac could be crucial.
Health is a huge concern when it comes to Issac, but I feel that narrative can be put to rest. In the past two seasons alone, Issac has played in 129 games; he played in 58 during the 2023-24 season and 71 in the 2024-25 season. If you’re curious for comparison, Bradley Beal has played in 106 games in the past two seasons, which is 23 games less compared to Issac.

At this point in Issac’s career, I feel you already know what you’re getting when it comes to his game.
Issac is a good athletic defender who the Suns could use more of to put alongside Ryan Dunn, Dillon Brooks, and Rasheer Fleming. Offensively, his game isn’t that attractive. He shot 25% from three last season. Isaac is more of a dunker spot guy at this stage of his career, and the shooting? That’s not something that’s suddenly going to click out of nowhere.
In a trade package, I feel you could realistically get him for cheap, considering his contract and his role with the Magic:
Suns Receive:
- Jonathan Issac
Magic Receive
- Grayson Allen
- 2032 2nd via HOU
Orlando gets a shooter that they desperately need and a future second-round pick. Phoenix gets a stretch big that can defend and help add to their need for tall athletic players.
These are three trade targets I feel the Suns should look into exploring when it comes to this offseason. Phoenix needs a point guard badly, and they need a power forward just as bad.
With Issac, you don’t have to force Rasheer’s hand in taking the pressure of being a starter in his rookie season and possibly ruining his development by throwing him to the wolves. With Marcus Smart, I still feel you need to add a guy like Chris Paul or Russell Westbrook in the offseason, just so that you have more variety in the backcourt alongside Booker and Jalen Green. With Coby White, I feel he needs a chance to prove he can be that guy for a competitive team. And what team that’s competing needs a point guard as badly as the Suns?
