And with the 10th pick, the Suns take? Khaman Maluach from Duke!

Khaman Maluach falling to ten could be the Suns’ draft night miracle.

The Phoenix Suns found themselves on the clock with the 10th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday evening, a pick acquired just days earlier in the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade. Because the transaction won’t become official until July 6, the player selected would don a Houston Rockets cap on stage. But make no mistake: this was Phoenix’s pick.

And in his first official move as general manager, Brian Gregory made his presence felt. His choice?

I expect the Suns with the 10th pick will take Duke big man Khaman Maluach.

Khaman Maluach wasn’t supposed to be on the board. The consensus had suggested he’d land earlier, perhaps to the Nets or Raptors. Instead, Phoenix landed him. At 7’2” and 253 pounds, boasting a 7’7” wingspan, this center brings the size and defensive instincts the Suns desperately need.

Brian Gregory has signaled a clear direction: prioritize physicality and rim protection. Challenging tradition, he’s chosen a player on the bigger, quieter end, a choice that reflects the Suns’ shift from perimeter-heavy picks to interior strength.

This pick isn’t just about meeting immediate needs, it’s about laying a foundation. On draft night, Phoenix chose defense, length, and presence over flash. And that may define their next chapter more than any highlight-reel moment.

Our team will deliver an in-depth breakdown of the prospect, along with analysis of what the pick means for the organization and the future of the roster. It’s all part of our ongoing NBA Draft coverage as the Suns turn the page and begin charting a new direction.
