Clippers a potential destination for Bradley Beal?

July 2, 2025 by Hoops Hype

According to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN, the Clippers could be a potential destination for Beal if the Suns decide to copy the Bucks by waiving and stretching the remaining hundreds of millions on the 32-year-old guard’s contract. “If Bradley Beal were to be bought out of his contract, perhaps the Clippers would be a player [for him]. The Clippers have always been advantageous about getting stars on the cheap. In the past, they’ve gotten point guards like John Wall, Rajon Rondo, Russell Westbrook. They could be very advantageous if something like that unforeseen [would happen],” Youngmisuk said on ESPN’s NBA Today.

More on this storyline

Keith Smith: Why the Bucks are able to waive-and-stretch Damian Lillard without a buyout, but the Suns can’t with Bradley Beal: Teams can have no more than 15% of the cap in stretched salary per season. Bucks have no stretched salary on their books before Lillard. They clear the 15% marker by about $600K. The Suns are carrying $3.8M in stretch salary already (for EJ Liddell and Nassir Little). Adding Beal’s full amount would take Phoenix over the 15% allowable amount. -via Bluesky / July 1, 2025
Beal could make that money back (or he could possibly add to his income) after hitting the open market. I asked a few executives around the league what they believe Beal could be worth if he were a free agent. The consensus was in the range of the mid-level exception, which starts with a $14.1 million salary in 2025-26. But while certain winning situations or spectacular organizations would appeal to him, according to league sources, he’s also not trying to leave his family or upend their lives. -via New York Times / June 29, 2025
Phoenix could try to trade Beal, as it did this past season, but his no-trade clause remains. The same that was true before the 2025 trade deadline is the case today, according to a league source familiar with Beal’s thought process: Beal would be open to the right trade that sends him the right destination, but his preference is to remain in Phoenix, even if the team won only 35 games a season ago and just downgraded from Kevin Durant, who it dealt to the Houston Rockets last weekend. -via New York Times / June 28, 2025
