The Phoenix Suns and forward Haywood Highsmith have agreed to a multi-year deal. Phoenix got themselves under the luxury tax by approximately $2.4 million at last week’s trade deadline. Now, the Suns have filled their open roster spot by signing Highsmith.
The Brooklyn Nets traded for Highsmith last offseason, in a salary-clearing move from the Miami Heat. Highsmith was waived by the Nets without appearing in a game, after undergoing offseason knee surgery. Highsmith was closing in on a return before waived as part of Brooklyn’s deadline maneuvering. He’s expected to be ready to play after the All-Star break.
Last season, the 6-foot-5 forward appeared in 74 games for the Heat. Highsmith averaged 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 24.6 minutes per game. The veteran forward shot 38.2% on 3.1 three-point attempts per game for Miami.
