Javale McGee: Suns being overlooked, not begging for attention

November 30, 2021 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM

Even though the Phoenix Suns are in the middle of an impressive 16-game winning streak, some around the organization feel as if the team still isn’t getting the credit they deserve.

Look no further than center Javale McGee, one of the newest players in the Valley. Ahead of the Suns’ tilt against the league’s best Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, McGee said the hype around the matchup isn’t as big as it should be.

“Should be a pretty big headline, but I ain’t seen it nowhere,” McGee said about the Suns contest against the 18-2 Warriors. “It’s not getting all the publicity everybody else is, but we cool with leaving our heads down and being a great team.”

When asked if he feels the team is garnering enough attention from the national media, McGee didn’t mince his words.

“No, not at all,” he said. “I haven’t seen anything … I see everybody else. I see the (Los Angeles) Lakers, I see Brooklyn, I see everybody else but we got the second best record in the league.”

ESPN can you at least care about the fact the @suns are playing tremendous and mention their key players like you did @warriors SMH. You even mention players names for 3 ,4 and 5 behind them. Who is writing this? pic.twitter.com/MPAAlXGIK5

Despite the lack of attention the Suns are receiving, McGee said the team has no plans on changing they way they go about their business. A win against the Warriors on Tuesday would tie the franchise record for most consecutive wins at 17.

Should the Suns continue to do what they have done so far in the season, the big man thinks those who have overlooked the team will start to notice.

“I feel like the world will see when the time comes,” McGee said. “But we’re not begging for it either (national attention), we’re gonna keep our heads down and do our work, that’s who we are and what we do.”
