Kawhi Leonard out for Game 2 of Clippers’ WCF matchup vs. Suns

June 21, 2021 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM Leave a Comment

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Ty Lue made it official on Monday by ruling out forward Kawhi Leonard (knee) for Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against the Phoenix Suns.

Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes reported on Saturday that Leonard was not traveling with the team to Phoenix.

Leonard’s status has been somewhat of a mystery since the tail end of the Clippers’ series in the second round against the Utah Jazz. In Game 4, Leonard suffered a knee injury that had Los Angeles rule him out indefinitely.

It was then reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Wednesday that the Clippers feared it was an ACL injury for Leonard, but there have been no further updates on that since.

Leonard earned First Team All-NBA honors and Second Team All-Defense honors this season, as the 29-year-old has continued to be one of the best players in the league. He averaged 24.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game in the regular season and bumped his PPG to 30.4 in his 11 playoff games.

Without Leonard in Game 1, the Clippers lost to the Suns 120-114. Game 2 will take place at 6:00 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
