Kevin Durant Trade Unlikely As Of Now

July 23, 2022 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Kevin Durant made headlines last month when he requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets have been looking for a trade partner ever since. The problem though is that so far no one has been willing to meet the asking price.

“Brooklyn simply doesn’t have a deal out there that’s good enough to justify trading Kevin Durant with 4 years left on his contract… They’ve continued to talk to teams around the league, but simply no one’s meeting that threshold.”@wojespn on KD tradespic.twitter.com/dVpvtXFVFL

Durant Trade Unlikely As Of Now

Durant’s two “preferred” destinations are the Heat and the Suns. Neither team at this point would be able to get a deal done for him without bringing in other teams. Phoenix may not even want Durant after immediately matching the four-year $133 million offer sheet on Deandre Ayton. The Heat on the other hand are said to be focused on Durant instead of another rumored target Donovan Mitchell. Plus a trade centered around Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson just doesn’t seem to be enticing.

Another team I wrote about and that has been talked about as a potential landing spot for Durant is the Toronto Raptors. But including reigning NBA Rookie Of The Year Scottie Barnes in any deal for Durant is a “non-starter.” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said that Toronto doesn’t want to part with Barnes, and that Brooklyn is not interested in a deal that doesn’t include him. Both sides of that are understandable.

As I previously mentioned nobody is willing to meet Brooklyn’s asking price. That price is understandably high. Durant is arguably the best player in the game right now and the superstar has four years remaining on his contract. Because of that contract situation, the Nets do not have to trade him at all, much less anytime soon.
