Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated seems to think KD to Houston is a no-brainer. Should we care right now?
There are more significant events on the horizon for the Phoenix Suns than just worrying about the offseason. There are signs that the Suns might still have a chance to make the Play-In, potentially securing the 8th seed in the Western Conference if they can win two games in the tournament.
However, trade speculation heading into the offseason continues to dominate media discussions surrounding the team.
With one of the latest rumors, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated involves Suns star Kevin Durant as a potential candidate to end up with the Houston Rockets. It’s nothing new, just a new source and view on it. While nothing is concrete, the chatter around his future only adds to the noise surrounding the team.
Whether the Suns plan to make major moves or stay the course, their immediate priority should be maximizing their current roster’s potential and making a push for the postseason.

He goes on the say the following about the Suns and the future of Durant in the above mailbag.
“It’s no secret that Phoenix will split with Kevin Durant this summer. Durant has one year left on his contract and even approaching 37 still has incredibly high value. I think—and this is just my opinion—that Durant wants to wind up in Houston. I think if the Rockets wanted Durant before the trade deadline, it would have happened. Durant has a lot of respect for Ime Udoka and in Houston he could be a missing piece to a title contender. I’d keep an eye on that after this season.”
Later on, Chris had this to say about Devin Booker.
“To me, the smartest thing the Suns could do is put Booker on the block. There would be a bidding war. Houston, which holds a chunk of the Suns’ future draft capital, wants him. Detroit could be interested. So, too, could Oklahoma City, which could make an incredibly appealing offer.”
Exactly. The trade talks will always be there, but right now, the focus should be on how the Suns are playing as a team. They’re starting to click at the right time, and that matters way more than offseason speculation. Booker is locked in for next season, and while Durant’s future is uncertain, nothing is set in stone. The priority should be on finishing this season strong and seeing how far this group can go.
As for the offseason, I’m not too caught up in it yet. The Suns’ recent surge has me locked back into the present. If they can keep playing like this, the conversation might shift from “what’s next?” to “how dangerous can this team be right now?”
