After not receiving the Brooklyn Nets job, KY is headed to the college ranks.
He’s the highest-paid assistant in the NBA. He’s had a top-ten offense by rating for the past four seasons. And now, after not being named to the Brooklyn Nets head coaching job, the Phoenix Suns associate head coach is moving on. His final destination? Brigham Young University.

BYU recently lost its head coach, Mark Pope, as he chose to head to the University of Kentucky. After being led by John Calipari for 15 seasons, Pope seized the opportunity to coach a blue blood team in the NCAA, changing from BYU’s blue and white to the blue and white at UK.
The team has been searching to fill the vacancy, and they have landed on Suns’ associate head coach Kevin Young. KY was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, although he grew up in Georgia. His last stint coaching at the collegiate level was as an assistant at Utah Valley in 2007-08 and Oxford College in 2008-09.
BYU ranked as high as 12th in the country last season, ultimately finishing 23-11 and 5th in the Big 12 Conference. They received a 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament but lost to the Duquense Dukes 71-67 in the first round.
Young will head to BYU at the conclusion of the Suns’ postseason run, which hopefully doesn’t end until it’s 110° outside.
