Mark Williams and the Phoenix Suns are unlikely to agree to a contract extension before the October 20th deadline. Williams has played in just 106 games over his first three seasons and the Suns want more info on him before committing financially.
The Suns acquired Williams from the Charlotte Hornets at the draft for the No. 29 pick and a 2029 first rounder that will be the least favorable of picks via the Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Hornets previously traded Williams to the Los Angeles Lakers, but the trade was eventually rescinded.
Before acquiring Williams, the Suns internally considered trading for Walker Kessler of the Utah Jazz.
