There are opposing NBA teams expecting the Sixers to pursue trade opportunities with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported Monday morning in a new mock draft. According to Givony, those teams view the framework of a potential deal as something involving Paul George and the premium selection going to another team in exchange for a star player — including 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant, who appears almost certain to be traded from the Phoenix Suns this summer.

New: ESPN reported in its new mock draft this a.m. that rival teams expect the Sixers to consider moving the No. 3 pick with Paul George for a star.
The options named: Kevin Durant and Lauri Markkanen.
Is either concept actually sensible for the Sixers?

More on this storyline
“Now, Paul George — he has a podcast and he’s back. He said a couple months ago that he thinks Ace Bailey is a better pick than Cooper Flagg. Has Paul let you know his opinion?” Daryl Morey: “I haven’t spoken to Paul directly, although I was with his agent yesterday. The combine here is a big agent get-together. And look — Ace is a tremendous player, absolutely someone we’re considering. We’re looking at every option at three and the players we can pick, but we feel very good about who we’re going to pick, and Ace, for sure, is someone we’re considering.” -via YouTube / May 15, 2025
Paul George: And the reason I took the hiatus was more so I wanted to get my body healthy. Like, I wasn’t mentally there. You know, at the time where we were as a team, me dealing with injuries, I wasn’t in a space of being jolly and happy. You know, we obviously had topics and guests to talk with, but it wasn’t much for me to talk about, if that makes sense, just because of where I was at. And so now, you know, it’s obviously the summer—my downtime. I’m training, focusing on my body. I did procedures to get ready for this next season, and kind of just wanted to touch back with my fan base—the ones that were concerned: “Why did he stop this?” You know, there was a following. There were people that were looking forward to this. It was helping people mentally—people were going through things that they could connect with, with the stories. -via YouTube / May 14, 2025
Paul George: So, you know, our league—the days of stoppers, those are pretty much gone. The TAs [Tony Allen types], you know, even myself—I call myself a defender—there’s guys that I can’t do anything with. I just have to hope I’m there enough for this to be a tough shot for him. He might make the shot, but I did all I could to make it a tough possession for him. You just got to tip your hat. -via YouTube / May 14, 2025
