Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has made a lot of money over his career and has been investing his money substantially. His latest big buy might be both an investment and a hobby though.
On Friday, The Athletic reported that Durant has partnered with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) to become an investment partner in the Paris Saint-Germain FC team. PSG just won the UEFA Champions League title for the first time in their history.
As part of the partnership, Durant will be a consultant on QSI’s efforts to expand into basketball ownership too.
“Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant has expanded his relationship with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), investing directly into UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain as part of a strategic partnership that will also see Durant consult on the club’s ‘potential plans’ to expand into basketball,” The Athletic reported.
Durant already had a partial stake in a Major League Soccer team, the Philadelphia Union. He is also an investor in professional pickleball.

Some users joked that Durant’s purchase was very “on-brand” since he’s joining them only after they won a title. Others praised him for a very savvy business move:
“Of course he is… after they just won the championship,” one user wrote.
“Sounds about right. Dude joins the team after they win champions league. So on brand,” wrote another.
“Once again, Kevin Durant runs to the team that is the best in the world,” a third wrote.
“Of course he waits until they win their first champions league. This guy is the definition of a frontrunner.”
“This dude KD will do anything but face the grind. Of course he becomes a part-owner of the team that won the champions league.”
“Part-owner AFTER they win the UCL. He’s back at it again folks.”
In Durant’s defense, he was working on buying his stake in PSG over a year ago. It just took him until after they won the title to get the deal over the finish line.
Durant now joins a rather exclusive club of active NBA players who have ownership stakes in major sports teams.
LeBron James is a minority stakeholder in English Premier League giants Liverpool F.C.
