Marc Stein: I know there was the chatter this week about Philly and having possible interest. When I’ve checked out that scenario, it’s been strongly debunked to me. I do not think Philly is in the market for trying to pursue Kevin Durant. So yeah, I don’t foresee the Sixers emerging as a candidate there. Look, I think there’s really nothing new at this point. The consistent word on this has been that the Suns and Team Durant are going to work together on a possible resolution, if that is indeed the direction they’re going to go.”

New: ESPN reported in its new mock draft this a.m. that rival teams expect the Sixers to consider moving the No. 3 pick with Paul George for a star.
The options named: Kevin Durant and Lauri Markkanen.
Is either concept actually sensible for the Sixers?

If I’m the Nuggets I’m swinging for Durant this summer.
They have no chance if Houston or San Antonio decides to go for him. But if KD has any interest in going there, I’m not fucking around with timelines and sustainability anymore. You have the best player. Just go for it. – 5:26 PM

More on this storyline
Marc Stein: There was a thought that if Royal Ivey advances in this search, it would suggest—and I think we underline suggest—that maybe the Suns are more open to keeping Kevin Durant than has been anticipated. The fact that Royal Ivey did not advance in this coaching search—you know, that’s only going to embolden those who believe that the Suns will be exploring every conceivable Kevin Durant trade option that they have this offseason.” -via YouTube / May 21, 2025
Looking at Giannis’ potential options, Windhorst elaborated on the important upcoming decisions for him and said, “I think as the playoffs go on and we get closer to the draft season, there will be an increasing tension that grips the league on waiting for Giannis to make a signal about whether he wants to leave. And then, if he wants to leave, is there a place or places he wants to go, and is he going to have control? Those are big, important decisions that are going to happen.” But before dropping a bad news prediction for Durant, Windhorst clarified, “This isn’t an ironclad thing. It’s all evolving, but you could even have a player like Kevin Durant sort of sitting on the tarmac waiting to see what happens with his future until Giannis’s future gets tied up. Not guaranteed, but you could see some teams that Durant would have interest in, Giannis potentially having interest in, and you’re not getting both.” -via Yahoo! Sports / May 20, 2025
There are opposing NBA teams expecting the Sixers to pursue trade opportunities with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported Monday morning in a new mock draft. According to Givony, those teams view the framework of a potential deal as something involving Paul George and the premium selection going to another team in exchange for a star player — including 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant, who appears almost certain to be traded from the Phoenix Suns this summer. -via Philly Voice / May 19, 2025
