The cases have been made for both sides. What say you?
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Phoenix Suns fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
All week, we’ve been peeling back the layers of the Kevin Durant dilemma, exploring both the temptation and the trepidation of trading a 15-time All-Star. I’ve laid out the case on both sides, digging into the reasons the Suns might consider moving on, and the arguments for holding tight. It’s been a point-counterpoint dance, and through it all, I’ve tried to articulate the logic behind one of the most pivotal decisions this franchise may face.
For those who need a quick refresher as to the point/counterpoint:
The Case for Keeping Durant
Kevin Durant may be 35, but he’s still torching nets like it’s 2013. In a league where every front office hugs their draft picks like grandma’s quilt, trading KD means swapping certainty for lottery-ticket dreams. Phoenix’s flaws lie in the roster around Durant and Booker, not in the duo itself. The Suns need to own their missteps, not blow it up.
KD’s still Batman. Booker’s still Robin. Time to give them a better Gotham.
The Case for Trading Durant
The KD experiment was flashy, fun, and ultimately flawed. Despite Durant’s nightly scoring clinic, the Suns’ top-heavy roster couldn’t withstand the weight of the new CBA and a shallow bench. Phoenix now faces a fork in the road: ride with a 35-year-old maxed-out Durant, or cash out while the market’s still mildly hot. Rumored returns tease an alternate future. The dream was a title. The reality? Roster imbalance and cap gridlock. Maybe it’s time to turn the page.
But now I turn it over to you, the Bright Side community. What do you think the Suns should do? And what do you believe the Suns will do? That is the subject of this week’s Suns Reacts Survey, and it is one I am highly interested in seeing the results of.
