Trade Deadline Open Thread: Will the Suns make a move?

For the first time in 11 years, the Suns have a chance for a deep playoff run.

At biggest issue is that the Suns’ only regular rotation players with significant playoff experience are Jae Crowder and Chris Paul. Everyone else will be hitting the post season for one of their first times. In fact, last week’s acquisition of Torrey Craig for cash considerations added the team’s third most experienced playoff performer in the rotation.

A breakdown on playoff experience in the current rotation, in order of their minutes-per-game this season for the Suns.

2. Mikal Bridges — 0
3. Chris Paul — 12 years (109 games) — 20.9 points, 8.3 assists, 5.2 rebounds
4. Deandre Ayton — 0
5. Jae Crowder — 7 years (72 games) — 10.9 points, 5.4 rebounds
6. Cameron Johnson — 0
7. Dario Saric — 1 year (10 games) — 17.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists
8. Cameron Payne — 2 years (11 games) — 1.9 points, 0.7 assists, 28% shooting
9. Torrey Craig — 2 years (33 games) — 5.4 points, 4.1 rebounds
10. E’Twaun Moore — 3 years (21 games) — 5.4 points, 1.4 rebounds

Today is the Trade Deadline for the NBA this season.

For his part, Jones wasn’t tipping his hand in a radio interview on Wednesday.

“If something happens that drastically improves our team, we’ll look at it,” Jones said on Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo Wednesday. “Otherwise, I built this team in the offseason to have depth so we wouldn’t have to rely on trades and the deadline to give us a jolt or a boost.”

The Suns are 29-14 this season and 2nd best in the West. Can they get better? Of course. But the real test will be when the playoffs happen.

If the Suns make a trade, I would bet the acquired player is one with a good deal of playoff experience because James Jones wants to help them continue to perform well in the playoffs.

Update: After beating the Suns last night, the Magic have already unloaded Vuc (to Chicago), Fournier (to Boston) and Gordon (to Nuggets) !!!!

Oh, and JaVale McGee is already off to Denver as well.
