A.J. Green Sums Up His Performance With The Cardinals So Far

October 8, 2021 by The Spun

When the Cardinals signed A.J. Green prior to the 2021 season, he was expected to be a supplementary veteran talent in an already-impressive receiving corps. But now through four contests, the 33-year-old wideout leads the Arizona roster in receiving yards (248).

Green has led the Cardinals “Air Raid” attack in each of the past two games: first notching 112 yards on five receptions in a Week 3 win over the Jaguars, then logging 67 yards and a touchdown in this past Sunday’s win over the Rams.

These types of performances are vintage Green. After he was drafted with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2011 draft, the former Georgia Bulldog went on to notch seven straight Pro-Bowl appearances with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hampered by age and injury in recent years though, that steady production started to decline. In 2020, he finished the year with a career-low 523 yards and two touchdowns.

On Wednesday, Green said this talent never went away — he’s just finally getting the right opportunities.

“I don’t think I ever left,” Green said, per Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic. “I’m just getting great opportunities. When you have a guy like Hop on the other side and Kirk and the way our skill positions are playing, everybody plays us honest. Kyler’s just spreading the ball around, getting it to Max and Chase, our offensive line, everybody is just playing well. We’ve just got to keep this thing going. The sky’s the limit for us.”

With superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, fourth-year wideout Christian Kirk and second-round rookie Rondale Moore paired alongside Green, there’s no question Kyler Murray and the Cardinals have one of the most dangerous passing attacks in the league.

Arizona will look to continue this streak as the only remaining unbeaten team in the NFL with a matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
