Andy Reid ‘Begged’ Legendary Wide Receiver To Come Out Of Retirement

September 5, 2023 by The Spun

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has been doing everything in his power to win a third Super Bowl. To that end, he’s apparently been trying to recruit a legendary wide receiver to come out of retirement and play for him.

Appearing on Let’s Go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray, Reid admitted that he’s tried to reach out to Fitzgerald – a future Hall of Fame wide receiver who has not played since 2020 – to join him in Kansas City.

“I’ve tried to hire Larry 15 different times. I begged him even when he was out for a year to come back. Come on!” Reid said.

Reid wasn’t alone there. Brady himself admitted that he tried to recruit Fitzgerald many times back when he was playing too.

Everyone’s been begging Larry Fitzgerald to make a comeback, even Andy Reid 👀

Here it is – Let’s Go! is BACK for the 2023-2024 season with new episodes every Monday.

Larry Fitzgerald is one of the best wide receivers of the past 20 years. His 11 Pro Bowl seasons with the Arizona Cardinals are second only to the great Jerry Rice for the most by a wide receiver in NFL history.

But after the Cardinals’ Super Bowl run in 2008 and Kurt Warner’s subsequent retirement in 2009, Fitzgerald and the Cardinals struggled for the next decade with only two more playoff runs before he retired after the 2020 season.

At 40 years of age, Fitzgerald is probably beyond a point where he could come back. But with the right offer, who knows?
