The Arizona Cardinals held their first practice of mandatory minicamp Tuesday with one notable player absent. It wasn’t quarterback Kyler Murray.
It was center Rodney Hudson.
Hudson did not show up for voluntary workouts or OTAs, but this is different. And, per head coach Kliff Kingsbury, the absence is not excused.
“We’re working through something with him,” he said after Tuesday’s practice.
Hudson was acquired by the Cardinals last offseason in a trade and, after the trade, was signed to a contract extension.
He is due $10.85 million in salary this season and $8.25 million in 2023.
He is 33 years old and has played 11 seasons in the NFL.
Fellow offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum appeared on Arizona Sports 98.7 and believes there will be a resolution reasonably soon.
“As far as I know he’s doing well,” Beachum said on the radio. “(He) just had a son not too long ago (and) has a young daughter, so he’s putting family first as any father would, and I would say that the rest will be handled between him and the organization. (I) know that he’s in good spirits and (am) excited to see what comes from it in the next couple of weeks.”
If Hudson misses all of minicamp, he could be subject to up to $90,000 in fines.
The Cardinals will hold one more day of minicamp before breaking for the summer until training camp.
