A day after the Arizona Cardinals announced the changes on their coaching staff, they announced another addition.
They have added a coach via the team’s Bill Bidwill Coaching Fellowship program, which is designed to increase diversity and create additional opportunities for coaching experience at the highest level.
This year’s fellow is DJ Gillins.
He was with the Cardinals as a coach in training camp last year under the league’s Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowship. He previously coached running backs and wide receivers at the collegiate level. He began as a graduate assistant with three different schools — Utah State in 2019, Arkansas in 2019-2020 and Utah in 2021. He then coached receivers at Long Island University for two years and then running backs at Stony Brook last year.
He played quarterback and receiver in college, so between his playing days and his previous coaching work, he likely will work on the offensive side of the ball.
This fellowship has been successful. The last two to be part of it are still on the team and were recently promoted. Connor Senger was made the team’s new pass gam specialist, replacing the departed Spencer Whipple, while Blaine Gauthier became offensive quality control coach.
