Cardinals aren't worried about Kyler Murray returning to baseball

February 20, 2021 by Cards Wire Leave a Comment

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was the first player to ever be drafted in the first round both in the NFL and in Major League Baseball. However, he chose to play football. He still has the itch to play both, though, as he expressed earlier this offseason.

Will he get the chance?

Not if Cardinals general manager Steve Keim has any say.

Would he ever let Murray play both football and baseball?

“Hell no,” he said on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Friday.

That said, Keim isn’t worried that Murray will leave and return to baseball.

“I have a lot of confidence in the fact that Kyler is going to continue to concentrate on football,” he added. “He is a guy that when you talk to him about this game, he’s a football junkie.”

Murray also offers his opinions on players the Cardinals could land.

“He has texted me a number of times about different prospects whether it is free agents or college players,” Keim continued. “That’s what excites me about certain guys in our locker room when they’re that invested in the team that they want to see certain players from different teams or colleges join our organization.”

Murray chose football for a reason. However, that baseball itch will remain for years. One of these days, though, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get a day in spring training one of these years.
