Cardinals Linebacker Has A Message For Derrick Henry

September 10, 2021 by The Spun

The Arizona Cardinals are set to begin their season this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. To come out on top, they’ll have to stop superstar running back Derrick Henry.

Henry is a nightmare of a running back to try and defend. He humiliates a defender or two every single time he steps on a football field. Remember when he stiff-armed Josh Norman and sent him flying in a game last season? The last thing defenders want to be is one the receiving end of a Henry highlight play.

Regardless, Cardinals’ second-year linebacker Isaiah Simmons isn’t concerned about facing Henry. He’s not even concerned about ending up on the wrong end of a highlight play.

Simmons admitted on Thursday that he’s simply “out there to play ball” and isn’t worried about trying to defend the Titans’ superstar running back.

“I’m not playing scared, or to not get stiff-armed,” Simmons said, via Darren Urban of the team’s website. “I’m going out there to play ball. At the end of the day, he puts his cleats on just like me. Yeah, he does have that great ability, but I’m not going into the game worried about it, trying not to make a highlight.”

Isaiah Simmons isn’t scared of Derrick Henry. He shouldn’t be. He’s a linebacker in the National Football League.

Sure. Henry has put plenty of defenders on a “poster” these past few years. That’s no reason for defenders to avoid trying to make a play, though.

The Cardinals will try and slow down Henry and the Titans this Sunday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. ET.
