Cardinals officially sign RB James Conner to 1-year deal

Pro Bowl RB had been visiting with the team.

The Cardinals have officially filled their free agent RB conundrum.

Via the team’s website, Arizona inked former Pro Bowl RB James Conner to a one year deal with the club.

Conner, who had spent his lone four NFL years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has averaged over 4 yards per carry each year.

The issue with the former third round pick has been health, and ironically Conner underwent offseason surgery to repair an injured toe. He is expected to be back and healthy prior to camp.

That injury must not have been too severe, however, as the team did put him through a physical on Monday.

Conner immediately enters the fold as direct competition to incumbent starter Chase Edmonds, who should have the leg up on the former Steeler.

This move should not preclude Arizona from adding a RB via this month’s NFL Draft, however, now allows them not to reach on a player considering they currently do not own a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Conner is a viable rushing and receiving option who even has experience playing special teams. His 6’1 frame should work nicely behind a reworked interior Cardinal online that now boasts the lines of Pro Bowl center Rodney Hudson.

No contract details have been released for Conner but I would expect them to be incentive laden and close to the veteran minimum.
