Cardinals sign defensive tackle Darius Kilgo

August 10, 2021 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM

The Arizona Cardinals filled in lost depth along the defensive line Monday by signing 29-year-old tackle Darius Kilgo.

Kilgo played last season on the practice squads of the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos — it was his second stint with each of those teams. He’s also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions.

He has appeared in 29 NFL games since entering the league in 2015 with Denver as a sixth-round pick. He appeared in 18 games for the Broncos from 2015-16, totaling 11 tackles, before the Patriots claimed him off waivers in 2016.

For Arizona, the addition comes after the team placed defensive lineman Xavier Williams on the injured reserve Sunday.

Williams was an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa in 2015 and played three seasons with the Cardinals, recording 28 tackles, 0.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two QB hits over 23 games including two starts.

Williams played in 2018 and 2019 with the Kansas City Chiefs before splitting last season with the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots, where he combined for 24 tackles and a sack.

He signed this offseason as the Cardinals added nose tackle depth with last year’s captain, Corey Peters, still a free agent and coming off a knee injury last season.

Kilgo joins an interior of the defensive line that includes Peters, Jordan Phillips and J.J. Watt, plus recent draft picks Zach Allen, Leki Fotu and Rashard Lawrence.

Allen and Lawrence were not in uniform at the start of practice on Monday, according to Arizona Sports’ Tyler Drake.
