This year has presented challenges for all NFL teams as they evaluate players for the NFL draft. Whether it is medical concerns or the lack of game tape to evaluate because of opt-outs, it has been an interesting draft year.
One player who is likely under consideration for the 16th overall pick in the draft is Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley. His talent and traits are undeniable. However, he recently had back surgery to repair a bulging disc that stems from a workout injury a while back.
The Cardinals still have not made up their mind on him and his back.
“As far as the medical goes, it’s going to be up to our doctors and trainers,” general manager Steve Keim told the media on Thursday. “You have to lean on those guys and rely on them and I’ll meet with those guys early next week and we’ll address all of those concerns.”
If all things check out, considering cornerbacks Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Hoen might not be available, Farley might end up being the guy.
If so, it means they are comfortable with his progress and his future.
