The Arizona Cardinals can go a number of different directions in the NFL draft next week. Most have them taking a cornerback with the 16th pick but they could also look for a wide receiver.
In the second mock draft by NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, he has the Cardinals trading into the top 10. His first mock draft had them targeting dynamic Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.
This time it is for Alabama receiver Jaylen Waddle.
The Cardinals continue their uber-aggressive offseason by acquiring yet another weapon for Kyler Murray to help the franchise emerge from the gauntlet that’s the NFC West. Waddle, whose ankle has fully healed, is seen as tough as nails and an instant-impact player at both WR and on special teams. In the swap, the Lions pick up No. 16 overall this year, as well as the Cardinals’ 2022 first- and third-rounder.
That is a steep price giving up two future picks to move up nine spots. However, if Waddle can become a receiver at the same level or similar to Larry Fitzgerald and DeAndre Hopkins, they won’t regret it.
He has the potential to be as scary for opposing defenses as Tyreek Hill.
The Cardinals offense will be scary good adding him to the group of receiver they already have, their running came and Kyler Murray’s running ability.
They would join the rest of the NFC West in not having a first-round pick next year but it might just be worth it.
