Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown Responds to Cardinals’ Kyler Murray: ‘Little Man’

March 15, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

Chiefs Brown

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is happy with the team signing wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency.

The two-time MVP expressed as much in emoji form with a post on X, formerly Twitter, on March 14. However, Brown’s former teammate and quarterback – in college and the NFL – Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals, was not nearly as pleased. He shared a clip from the movie 300, in which Evialtes betrays the Spartan army, leading to his banishment (and their demise).

Hollywood Brown Responds to Cardinals’ Kyler Murray Playful Shot Over Chiefs Contract

Kyler Murray Jokes Hollywood Brown ‘Dead’ to Cardinals

“You’re dead to us @Primetime_jet,” Murray exclaimed in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on March 15. “Good luck, you’re dead to me.”

Murray followed that with the infamous Wolverine reminiscing meme.

“ima miss you little man,” Brown replied, quoting Murray’s post.

Brown, 26, caught 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. Originally selected with the No. 25 overall pick in 2019 by the Baltimore Ravens, the 5-foot-9 speedster spent the last two seasons with the Cardinals.

He has just one 1,000-yard season under his belt, finishing the 2021 campaign with 91 receptions, 1,008 yards, and six scores.

Brown signed a one-year, $7 million contract with another $4 million available in incentives.

He has 313 career receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns in five NFL seasons after a brief, but highly productive two-year career alongside Murray, who the Cardinals selected No. 1 overall that season.

Patrick Mahomes Says Little, Speaks Volumes in Post

Mahomes’ post didn’t say much, or really anything. Not with words anyway, as he chose to let emojis do the talking. His first post was a beaming smiley face. His second reaction was to Brown’s heartfelt post on his next opportunity.

“Blessed Beyond Measures…,” Brown said in a post on March 14. “ChiefsKingdom Let’s Rock.”

Mahomes also shared the screenshot of Head Coach Andy Reid’s message to Brown, recruiting the former first-rounder to the Chiefs, which the receiver had shared on his Instagram account earlier in the day.

“Hollywood, think Red today, KC Red with diamonds,” Reid’s message to Brown read. “Andy Reid.”

Chiefs Re-Tool Receiving Corps

Brown joins fellow former rival first-round pick Kadarius Toney and former second-rounders Rashee Rice and Skyy Moore, among others, in the Chiefs wide receiver room. The Chiefs also signed former Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. Rice and 2022 seventh-round pick Isiah Pacheco’s respective ascensions this past season were a boon for the Chiefs.

Mahomes restructuring his contract to create $21 million in cap space gives them flexibility.

They now have $15.9 million in cap space, per Spotrac. They also have three selections in the top 100 picks of the 2024 NFL Draft. That is enough ammunition to continue adding pieces around Mahomes as he and the Chiefs attempt to make NFL history as the first team to three-peat.

The Chiefs also have to be mindful of potential extensions for center Creed Humphrey and right guard Trey Smith.

Defensively, L’Jarius Sneed’s situation looms large.

Meanwhile, safety Justin Reid, edge rusher Charles Omenihu – who ended the season injured – and linebacker Nick Bolton are all in the final year of their respective contracts. Rising star cornerback Trent McDuffie and edge rusher George Karlaftis loom in the not-too-distant future too.
