Colt McCoy likely to start for Cardinals in place of injured Kyler Murray vs. Seahawks

November 21, 2021 by Cards Wire

It appears that the Arizona Cardinals will go without quarterback Kyler Murray for the third straight game. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, signs are pointing toward Colt McCoy making his third straight start as the Cardinals face the Seattle Seahawks on the road in Week 11.

Murray, who sprained his ankle at the end of the team’s Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers, missed the last two games but got limited work in practice all this week leading up to the game.

He himself sounded optimistic that he would be able to play, saying that he is “pretty close.”

According to Schefter, a final decision will not be made until after pregame warmups on Sunday. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said earlier in the week that it would come down to whether Murray would be able to protect himself from reinjuring the ankle.

Arizona has their bye next week.

With McCoy at the helm, the Cardinals are 1-1. He led the offense to 31 points on the road against the San Francisco 49ers in a victory but then turned the ball over twice last week at home against the Carolina Panthers, leading to a 17-0 first-quarter deficit and a 34-10 loss.

The Seattle defense is 31st in yards allowed this season, so if McCoy can protect the football better, they should be able to get into a rhythm and have a chance of winning their ninth game of the season.

The Cardinals-Seahawks Week 11 matchup kicks off at 2:25 p.m. Arizona time.
