Could the Cardinals make a play for a receiver in free agency?

February 20, 2025 by Cards Wire

The Arizona Cardinals have major needs at outside linebacker and at guard to address in free agency, but another position could end up being an area where the team decides to make a notable move in free agency.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote a burning question for all 32 NFL teams entering free agency, and the question for the Cardinals was whether they would become “a sneaky player” in free agency once it begins in March.

The Cardinals are going to have plenty of cap space and an extremely young wide receiver room, led by 2024 first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr. I don’t know that they could get someone like Tee Higgins, if Cincinnati even lets Higgins out of the building. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arizona spend some of that cap space at that position.

The Cardinals could be a landing spot for someone like Davante Adams (if he’s cut), Deebo Samuel Sr. (if he’s cut or traded) or Keenan Allen. They ranked 30th in wide receiver receiving yards last season with 1,859 and could use a boost.

Receiver is quietly a need for the Cardinals. Greg Dortch, Zay Jones and Zach Pascal will all be free agents, leaving only Harrison and Michael Wilson as the only players at the position who played significant snaps left on the roster.

So it wouldn’t be surprising if they added a well-established player at the position.

The Cardinals were named a perfect fit for veteran receiver Amari Cooper.

It might not be as notable need because of Harrison and the emergence of tight end Trey McBride, but adding a quality receiver would be a good idea.
