Here are some of the questions that Justin Frye will likely be asked to answer

If there was still an inkling of a doubt that the Arizona Cardinals are locked in on the Ohio St. program as a breeding ground for top draft picks, then the team’s hiring of Justin Frye the Buckeyes’ assistant head coach, as the successor to Klayton Adams as offensive line coach, now feels like a slam-dunk confirmation.

What a bonanza for Ohio St. blue-chip prospects the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin portends to be.

Ohio St. prospects in. this year’s draft class comprise 10% (10 players) of the top 100 on PFF’s Big Board:

  • 12 —- Josh Simmons, T, 74.4
  • 14 —- Emeka Egbuka, WR, 79.8
  • 22 —- Jack Sawyer, ED, 90.5
  • 28 —- Tyleik Williams, DT, 79.6
  • 58 —- Donovan Jackson, G/T, 71.8
  • 69 —- TreVeyon Henderson, RB, 87.9
  • 70 —- Quishon Judkins, RB, 88.9
  • 77 —- Latham Ransom, S, 82.1
  • 100 —- Will Howard, QB, 86.4
  • 159 —- Seth McLaughlin, C, 70.7
  • 165 —- Cody Simon, LB, 87.9
  • 168 —- Denzel Burke, CB, 73.3

Mel Kiper’s Position Rankings:

  • Simmons —- #3 T
  • Egbuka —- #4 WR
  • Sawyer —- #6 ED
  • Williams —- #9 DT
  • Jackson —- #4 G
  • Henderson —- #6 RB
  • Judkins —- #5 RB
  • Ransom —- #7 S
  • Howard —- #4 QB
  • McLaughlin —- #4 C
  • Simon —- #8 LB
  • Burke —- NR

The Cardinals Picks:

  • 16
  • 47
  • 78
  • 113
  • 153
  • 249

If we were to go by the PFF player rankings, here’s how the Cardinals could draft as many Buckeyes as possible:

  • 16 —- Jack Sawyer, ED
  • 47 —- Donovan Jackson, G/T
  • 78 —-Matt Howard, QB
  • 113 —- Seth McLaughlin, C
  • 153 —- Cody Simon, LB

Realistically, I think there’s a good chance that Will Howard and Donovan Jackson will be drafted earlier than these rankings suggest.

ROTB Poll:

Fascinating questions for Justin Frye:

  1. Is T Josh Simmons your #1 hope for the Cardinals at pick #16? Do you think his transition to RT would be smooth? (Note: At San Diego St. in 2022, Simmons played RT as a freshman —- he gave up 4 sacks, 17 QB pressures and had a PFF grade of 47.1) Are you concerned about his patella tendon injury?
  2. Given the choice, in light of Donovan Jackson’s outstanding versatility, would you prefer the Cardinals to come away from this draft with Jackson?
  3. Who is harder to block, Jack Sawyer or JT Tuimoloau? Is Jack Sawyer the ultimate culture guy? Do you think he is of supreme value at pick #16?
  4. How confident are you in QB Matt Howard? Do you think he has what it takes to be the Cardinals’ QBOF? Now seeing as Howard is Mel Kiper’s #4 ranked QB, is Matt Howard worthy of the #16 pick, especially if the club is open to trading Kyler Murray?
  5. Who were the hardest defensive linemen to block in the Big Ten? What do you think of Michigan’s Kenneth Grant? Oregon’s Derrick Harmon? How does Tyleik Williams stack up with Grant and Harmon? if you were going to take a DT at #16, which one would you choose?
  6. How high are you on C Seth McLaughlin? Would you want him as a Day 3 pick?
  7. Are you considering Jon Gaines II, whom you coached with strong success at UCLA, as one of your starting guards?
  8. What do you think of G Isaiah Adams?
  9. Which of the Cardinals’ UFAs on the offensive line would you like to see the club re-sign? Will Hernandez? Kelvin Beachum? Evan Brown? Tristan Colon?
  10. What do you think the club should do with RT Jonah Williams?

What do you hope some of Justin Frye’s answers are?
