J.J. Watt tweaks hamstring, placed on PUP list

NFL: Arizona Cardinals OTA

The veteran has played on two full seasons in five years.

J.J. Watt’s Cardinal training camp debut is currently on hold.

Watt, according to numerous reports, tweaked his hamstring during Tuesday’s team conditioning tests.

The Cardinals are of course being noticeably smart with Watt, who has had injury troubles in recent years. Despite playing all 16 games in 2020, the former Defensive Player of the Year has only played two full seasons since 2016.

The Arizona Cardinals have put Watt on the PUP list, physically unable to perform, because that means he can come back at any time, but if anything happens and there are setbacks it is a safeguard for the team.

Watt is entering year one of a two year deal with the club worth $20 million dollars in guarantees.

Let’s hope this is only a blip on Watt’s Cardinal career. The coaching staff will likely have the 32 year old veteran on somewhat of a pitch count throughout the season. The team is noticeably deeper along the defensive line as compared to prior years.

Young players such as Rashard Lawrence, Leki Fotu and Zach Allen all figure to have prominent roles for the Cardinals. Veteran DT Jordan Phillips is also aiming to rebound from a down year in 2020.
