Jonathan Gannon looking forward to joint practices with Vikings

June 1, 2023 by Cards Wire

The Arizona Cardinals will have a pair of joint practices this summer in August leading up to their preseason finale on the road against the Minnesota Vikings.

They will practice against the Vikings in what has become a very common practice for NFL teams in training camp.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke about it on Thursday and is excited at the opportunity for the players to face someone else other than teammates in practice during camp.

He sees extra benefits from it because  Minnesota runs different things schematically than the Cardinals do.

“When you are in camp, I know you have the preseason games, but we are playing against (our) schemes and that will be significantly different for the offense and defense, so I think it’s good to get that awareness of how people play,” Gannon said after practice on Thursday.

Gannon also noted the quality players the Vikings have as well.

Since it will be the final week of the preseason, it will give the Cardinals a real controlled tuneup against other players not on their own roster before th regular season begins.

And since it will come before the preseason finale and starters won’t likely play in that game, it will give them a couple of days of competitive reps in the final week of the preseason.
