Here it is, your last Friday Mock Draft Tracker update before the actual NFL Draft gets underway next Thursday in Cleveland.
Another 41 mocks were added this week, and while there were plenty featuring the Arizona Cardinals projecting the usual suspects (Jaycee Horn, Caleb Farley) at number 16, one name seemed to pick up steam this week.
The name is DeVonta Smith, the Alabama wide receiver who is coming off one of the best single seasons for a wideout in the history of college football. Smith helped the Crimson Tide to another National Championship and proved to unstoppable all season long. Smith caught 117 passes for 1,863 yards and 20 touchdowns on the way to becoming the first receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard of Michigan in 1991.
Smith made news this week by weighing in at just 166 pounds during a medical check in Indianapolis — not exactly the ideal number for an NFL wide receiver.
However, Cardinals general manager Steve Keim is still a fan of Smith’s game heading into draft week.
“People question Smith’s size, you know, weighing in at 170 pounds, and this will date me, but I remember playing in a high school All-Star game with a guy who weighed 174 pounds coming out of Syracuse that you might have heard of named Marvin Harrison, who was a pretty good player,” Keim said Thursday. “Those guys have similar body types.”
Will Smith be on the board at 16 on Thursday and will he trade in a crimson jersey for a Cardinal red one? We’re just days from finding out.
