It was a busy week in NFL mock draft circles.
Not only did Mel Kiper of ESPN release his second mock of the season (and first ever predicting trades), but we’ve added 29 mocks to the mix this week as we inch ever so closer to the NFL Draft in April.
There was a wide range of players linked to the Arizona Cardinals with the 16th pick in the first round. In fact, 13 different players were. Jaycee Horn, the South Carolina cornerback continues to be a popular draft projection for mock creators, showing up in six more this week and bringing his total to 38 over the cycle, which began in early January.
But we’re also seeing more mocks with Steve Keim and Co. tabbing an offensive lineman on day one.
USC guard Alijah Vera-Tucker showed up four times over the last week while Virginia Tech tackle Christian Darrisaw appeared three times.
Vera-Tucker is a versatile lineman, as shown over the last two seasons. He started at left guard for the Trojans in 2019 and then bounced outside to left tackle during the 2020 season, but most teams project the 6-foot-4, 315-pound redshirt junior as a guard in the NFL. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just four sacks in over 900 pass-blocking snaps in his college career.
Darrisaw started at left tackle for most of the last three years at Virginia Tech and earned a 95.6 overall grade in 2020 from PFF while not allowing a sack.
Other common Week 8 mock targets for the Cardinals include Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II, Georgia edge rusher Azeez Ojulari and Michigan edge defender Kwity Paye.
