Predicting The Worst NFL Team For The 2023 Season

May 30, 2023 by The Spun

Last season, the Chicago Bears owned the worst record in the NFL. Despite all the success Justin Fields had, Matt Eberflus went 3-14 in his first year as the team’s head coach.

So, which team will be at the bottom of the standings this upcoming season? If we had to make a prediction right now, we’d go with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals didn’t exactly have an exciting offseason. They lost defensive lineman Zach Allen and cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. in free agency, J.J. Watt retired from the NFL, and All-Pro safety Budda Baker has been mentioned in countless trade rumors.

To make matters worse, the Cardinals aren’t even sure when star quarterback Kyler Murray will be cleared for action. He suffered a torn ACL at the end of the 2022 regular season.

If Murray misses an extended period of time, Colt McCoy would be the starting quarterback for the Cardinals. That’s not exactly a recipe for success.

It also doesn’t help that Arizona has a ridiculously hard schedule. For starters, it resides in a division that features the 49ers, Rams and Seahawks – all teams that have more than enough talent to make the playoffs next season. The rest of the schedule, meanwhile, includes games against the AFC North and NFC East. That’s tough sledding to say the least.

In the event Murray misses at least a month or two of the regular season, that would put the Cardinals in a massive hole heading into November. On the other hand, it would put them right at the forefront of the Caleb Williams sweepstakes.
