As injuries continue to be an issue for Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Kyler Murray, he will be out for the rest of the 2025 season. According to the breaking news, it’s no surprise that the Cardinals are putting a pause on Murray since their season is over, but they have to think about their future moving forward. The Cardinals have one of the best catchers in Marvin Harrison Jr. and an explosive tight end, Trey McBride, but they have a quarterback issue on their hands. With the first-round pick of next year’s draft, they will likely take a quarterback, but Murray’s time in Arizona is probably done.

Report: Cardinals Star Kyler Murray OUT for Rest of 2025 Season; 3 Potential Next Teams
Originally selected as a first-round pick, the former Oklahoma product began his NFL career as a promising quarterback in this league. In his rookie season, he built himself as an adequate starter, setting records and capturing consecutive Pro Bowls the following seasons. Murray led the Cardinals to a postseason appearance, but in recent memory, it hasn’t worked out for him in this offense.
This might be a wake-up call that the Cardinals need to move on and build a new regime without Murray. He might be better off suited elsewhere, but due to his recovering injury, it will take time for him to find a new destination this upcoming offseason if he gets released. The quarterback has a chance to change his career around if he doesn’t end up retiring, but these three teams could roll the dice on him to see if he can get back to his old self.
Possible Destinations
Atlanta Falcons
Murray might not be playing a full-time MVP level, but he needs a fresh start. The Falcons need a reset after betting on quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who has failed to meet expectations. There’s no timetable on when Penix will return, but his 2025 season is over as he was required to have a season-ending injury. The Falcons will be cautious about bringing him back, so this means the team will be on the hunt for a new quarterback.
There’s no guarantee that the next quarterback will be a starter, but this might be an opportunity for Murray to take. Penix will return depending on whether they were able to find a replacement, and even though Murray might not have high chances to be a starter anymore, the Falcons have the offensive weapons to bring the veteran back in the same groove of things.
Carolina Panthers
Meanwhile, the quarterback situation in Carolina is still up in the air, even though the Panthers could win the division. Quarterback Bryce Young is having himself a resurgent season this year after back-to-back horrid campaigns. This doesn’t mean the Panthers shouldn’t draft another quarterback.
They should consider all options on the table and bring some competition to the offense to ensure that Young is the future. This is Murray’s chance to bring something out again in the upcoming preseason next August if he becomes a free agent.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints are another NFC team that is looking for their next franchise quarterback. They will draft one in the first round, but they will need to sign or trade for a veteran. Murray is a low-stakes option to battle it out with Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler. It’ll be interesting to see if this is the option they will go with this offseason.
