Report: Former Cardinals OT D.J. Humphries signs with Chiefs

November 22, 2024 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM

Former Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle D.J. Humphries has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, first reported by Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed the details as Humphries signed a deal that can go up to $4.5 million for the rest of the season.

Rapoport reported earlier on Friday morning that Humphries was medically cleared to play after suffering a torn ACL in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 31 last season.

Selected 24th overall out of Florida in the 2015 NFL Draft, the 6-foot-5 tackle played 98 games over nine seasons in Arizona. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021.

During his time in Arizona, he signed a pair of three-year extensions with the Cardinals with the most recent one coming down in 2022.

Humphries was released by the Cardinals in March. Jonah Williams was signed and moved to the right side of the offensive line with second-year tackle Paris Johnson Jr. taking over at left tackle.

Williams went down with a knee injury during Week 1’s loss to the Buffalo Bills and was placed on the injured reserve.

In his place has largely been swing tackle Kelvin Beachum. The veteran has started eight games since Williams went down after he started Week 1. Beachum missed one game due to a hamstring injury.

Williams was activated off IR on Wednesday. He was limited a partipcant in practice this week and is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
