The Arizona Cardinals’ head coaching search appears to be clearing up. Two candidates came off the board as Frank Reich was hired to be the head coach of the Carolina Panthers and Dan Quinn will return to the Dallas Cowboys in 2023 to be their defensive coordinator for the third straight year.
Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton was in Tempe to interview for Cardinals’ job, which caused betting odds for the next head coach to move.
The odds for two candidates have shortened significantly with the news.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook as of Thursday afternoon, the futures odds for Payton and former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores have shortened significantly.
Previously, Flores had the shortest odds at +150 with Payton next at +350.
As of Thursday afternoon, Flores’ odds had shortened to -150 and Payton’s to +150.
Payton is a home-run swing for the Cardinals, a move that seems very on-brand for owner Michael Bidwill.
But Flores is a perfect fit in terms new team leadership, having come up in the New England Patriots’ organization along with new general manager Monti Ossenfort.
If Payton ends up leaving town without an offer, Flores feels like the top choice.
The odds reflect that.
We should have news in the next few days.
