For years, the NFL has attempted to add a little intrigue to Days 2 and 3 of the draft. Between team legends and fans, selections on Day 2 and 3 are often announced by special guests.
For the Arizona Cardinals, the spirit of Pat Tillman will be felt.
The league announced that two Tillman Scholars will announce the Cardinals’ seventh-round selection.
They have the 226th overall pick, which is notable because Tillman was selected by the Cardinals with the 226th pick in 1998.
As such, Tillman’s legacy will be honored.
Deborah Trimble and Jeremy Glasstetter, both Tillman Scholars, who will be announcing the 226th pick, which was Tillman’s draft selection in the 1998 NFL Draft. Deborah is a United States Air Force veteran and current Tillman Scholar at the University of Michigan where she is pursuing a medical degree to support the military community. Jeremy is an Army veteran and a member of the inaugural class of Tillman Scholars. He continues to serve his community as a State of Michigan employee.
The timing is serendipitous, as April 22 marks the 20th anniversary of his death in Afghanistan, killed in action.
While it is a way to try and draw some viewers during the final rounds of the draft on a Saturday afternoon, it is a cool experience for those announcing the pick and it is a nice tribute to a Cardinals and Arizona legend.
