1 NFL Owner Is Showing Support For Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick has been outspoken about his desire to make an NFL comeback as soon as possible. But despite his active offseason, the former Super Bowl quarterback hasn’t received any legitimate consideration from franchises around the league.

Kaepernick last suited up for an NFL game when he took the field for the San Francisco 49ers on January 1, 2017. He hasn’t landed on an NFL roster since he was allegedly black balled by NFL owners for his decision to protest police brutality by kneeling for the National Anthem during the 2016 season.

During a recent interview with NBC Sports’ Race in America: A Candid Conversation, Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis expressed his belief in Kaepernick as an NFL QB.

“I believe in Colin Kaepernick,” Davis said. “He deserves every chance in the world to become a quarterback in the National Football League. I still stand by it. If our coaches and General Manager want to bring him in or want him to be the quarterback on this team, I would welcome him with open arms.”

The Raiders are locked in with Derek Carr as their longterm starting quarterback, but the backup unit currently consists of Nick Mullens and Garrett Gilbert. Kaepernick has made it clear that he’s willing to land on an NFL roster as a backup option.

Davis admitted that he’s had a change of heart since the initial Colin Kaepernick controversy in 2016.

“I think Colin is a very misunderstood human being,” Davis added. “I’ve gotten a chance to talk to him. I never really knew Colin, and I didn’t understand him. I didn’t understand the kneeling, what that meant initially. Over time, I have learned a little bit more about it.”

Should a team take a shot on Kaepernick in 2022?
