The college football season is still four-to-five months away from starting, but it’s never too early to look at which programs will improve from their 2021 seasons.
Josh Pate of 247Sports gave his list of three programs that will “bounce back” this coming season. His first one is the Texas Longhorns and it seems like pundits say that almost every season with the “Texas is back” slogan.
“There is no game, my point is, on this schedule — nor were there really last year any games — where you look and say, ‘Eh, they better get the other ones, they’re not going to win that one,”‘ Pate said. “So that let you know Texas has either a chance or will be favored in most of their games. But that’s always been the case. So, we got to ask ourselves what’s gonna be different about Texas this upcoming year? Don’t know. That’s why it’s a could be, instead of will be. I do think that there are several indicators pointing up for them. Plenty of time to talk about that.”
Pate also thinks North Carolina is going to be much better in 2022. The Tar Heels had another disappointing season in 2021 as they finished 6-7 with junior quarterback Sam Howell.
Howell won’t be there for this season as he’ll be in the NFL, but Pate is confident in UNC to be better than some expect.
“My second team is North Carolina. In fact, these next two teams I’m going to mention, the vibe that I get from these teams is maybe they’re going to deliver on expectations a year after the expectations were heaped on them this past year and in preview magazine season,” Pate said.
Finally, he has Wisconsin out of the Big Ten bouncing back after it went 9-4 this past season.
“There’s still time to get it right,” Pate said. “And if they can get it right, they’ve got a shot to do exactly what North Carolina could do. Deliver on expectation, just one year later than we thought it was going to be delivered.”
We’ll have to see if Pate is right about all three teams after the season.
