3 Major Golfers ‘Highly Interested’ In Netflix’s Upcoming PGA Documentary Series

September 4, 2021 by The Spun

Hard Knocks has been a big hit for HBO and the NFL for years now. In the last few years, we’ve seen a rise in popularity for F1 racing thanks in large part to Netflix’s documentary series Drive To Survive. Now, the PGA Tour is set to get the same treatment.

On Thursday, Golf.com reported that the PGA Tour has a deal in place with Netflix for a new series, giving a behind the scenes look at the 2021-22 season. Box to Box Films, which produces Drive to Survive, will be involved in the production, as will Rickie Fowler’s Main Event Productions and Vox Media.

Per the report, “several of the Tour’s top players,” have already committed to appear on the show. “Roughly a dozen players” are expected to be involved, about half of whom are top 20 players in the current world rankings. Now we have an idea of who three of those players may be.

Golf Digest reports that Fowler is “highly interested,” which is no surprise given his company’s involvement. Tony Finau and Cameron Champ are also named in the report.

Finau is currently ranked No. 9 in the world, and fits the bill of a top player who could be a focus of the show. Champ is currently ranked No. 70, while Fowler is down at No. 119.

“At least one executive from Vox Media is in Atlanta this week hoping to woo the likes of Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau,” the report adds. Thomas and DeChambeau are ranked Nos. 6 and 7, respectively.

Based on the Drive To Survive timeline, the first season of this new docuseries focused on 2021 could be released ahead of the start of the 2022 PGA Tour season.
