Unfortunately for the Philadelphia 76ers, the latest update on Joel Embiid isn’t very encouraging. According to Shams Charania, the team fears Embiid has a torn ligament in his right thumb.
Embiid has vowed to play through this injury, relying on his pain tolerance and the 76ers’ medical staff. Nonetheless, this is a tough pill to swallow.
So far this postseason, Embiid has been nearly unstoppable. He hit a game-winning shot on Wednesday night to crush Raptors fans’ hearts.
As you’d expect, NBA fans are frustrated that Embiid has to deal with the injury bug in the playoffs yet again.
“I’m not an Embiid guy but bro gives it his absolute everything,” one fan tweeted. “Last season with the meniscus tear this season with this. His prime idk how long it’ll last but respect for the big man.”

While there are countless fans who are worried this injury will derail the 76ers’ chances to win a title, some believe Embiid will find a way to overcome it.
“The man just made a last second buzzer beater the other night look effortless with his hurt thumb, I personally don’t think this is something Sixers fans should worry about,” a 76ers fan tweeted. “Just win tomorrow & get him some much needed rest going into the 2nd round.”

If the 76ers can sweep the Raptors on Saturday afternoon, that would buy Embiid some time to rest his thumb.
Tipoff for Game 4 between the 76ers and Raptors is at 2:00 p.m. ET.
