Aaron Rodgers revealed all of his pent-up frustrations with the Green Bay Packers in excruciating detail during a Wednesday press conference, just a day after reporting to the team for training camp. The reigning MVP might be in the building, but this afternoon’s media session showed that the situation hasn’t been completely remedied.
Rodgers open and honest assessment of his last few years in Green Bay all came flowing out on Wednesday as he explained why he escalated things with the Packers this offseason. However, his answers prompted some more questions from reporters in the building, including one that asked if there was a comparison to be made between Rodgers and Packers great Brett Favre.
The end of Favre’s career in Green Bay was also the result of tension between him and the organization, but the Hall of Famer had clearly started to show signs of old age during his final few seasons with the team. For that reason, Rodgers dismissed the idea that his current conflict with the franchise could be compared to that of the retired Packers quarterback.
“You can’t compare the last years of Favre’s career [in Green Bay] and compare them to mine,” Rodgers said, per CBS Sports. His answer on the former Packers great comes early in the video below.

Rodgers is right to make that assessment as Favre tapered off mightily during his final few years with the Packers. He also seemed to hint at a possible retirement almost every year toward the end, something that the current Green Bay quarterback hasn’t done. Rodgers also played at the top of his game last season and even in the few years before 2020 proved to be one of the best players in the league.
Favre and Rodgers do have one clear similarity in that the Packers each of their successors at the position before they were ready to leave football. For Favre, Rodgers was that player, whereas Jordan Love is now the quarterback-in-waiting in Green Bay.
Now that the Packers have their leader back with the team, they’ll need to do their best to smooth things over before the season starts up in early September.
