Andrew Wiggins Opens Up About His Vaccine Decision

October 5, 2021 by The Spun

Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins defends vs. the Miami Heat.

With the 2021-22 season right around the corner, Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins has finally decided to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. On Monday night, he explained why he changed his stance.

Wiggins pretty much told reporters after Monday night’s preseason game that he had no other choice but to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The only options were to get vaccinated or not play in the NBA,” Wiggins said. “It was a tough decision. Hopefully, it works out in the long run and in 10 years I’m still healthy.”

Even though Wiggins reluctantly received the COVID-19 vaccine, he isn’t mad at the Warriors. However, he did sound very frustrated with the NBA’s policy regarding the vaccine.

“Not toward the organization,” Wiggins explained when asked if he’s frustrated with the organization. “They didn’t make the rule. But I guess to do certain stuff, to work, I guess you don’t own your body. That’s what it comes down to. If you want to work in society today, then I guess they made the rules of what goes in your body and what you do. Hopefully, there’s a lot of people out there that are stronger than me and keep fighting, stand for what they believe, and hopefully, it works out for them.”

Wiggins was very open during his press conference on Monday night, detailing his family’s history with vaccines and his experience with COVID-19. He revealed that he’s the only member of his family who is currently vaccinated.

The good news for Wiggins is that this situation should no longer be a distraction. That being said, it’s very evident that he’s still conflicted about this particular topic.
