Andy Dalton Shares Honest Admission Following Week 1 Loss

September 14, 2021 by The Spun

Andy Dalton throws a pass during the Bears' preseason game against the Dolphins.

Despite losing by 20 points on Sunday night, Andy Dalton and the Chicago Bears are tied for first place in the NFC North. That’ll happen when the entire division loses in Week 1.

In his first start with his new team, Dalton completed 27-of-38 passes for 206 yards and an interception in a 34-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

He ceded a couple of snaps to rookie Justin Fields, who many Bears fans and NFL viewers in general think should have played for.

After the game, Dalton tried to preach patience moving forward.

“It’s a long season,” Dalton said, via SI.com. “I think everybody understands that. And I think if you look at the way the division shook out today we’re still in the same position.”

They are indeed all in the same position in the NFC North after one week. Besides the Bears, the Packers were shockingly blown out by the New Orleans Saints, while the Vikings lost a heartbreaker to the Bengals in overtime and the Lions fell to the 49ers.

However, as Dalton probably realizes, if he doesn’t pick up his play, he’ll eventually be replaced in the starting lineup by Fields. Matt Nagy has been reluctant to do that thus far, but as the season progresses, he may have no choice.
