After recent transfers, graduated seniors and two players declaring for the NBA Draft, the Arizona State men’s basketball roster will look much different in 2021-22. On Thursday, the cloudy picture of the Sun Devils future, got a little clearer, and a lot brighter, with the news that Toledo point guard Marreon Jackson has transferred to the program.

Last season, Jackson averaged 18.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists while shooting 40% from the field and 35% from three on his way to earning the title of Mid-American Conference player of the year.

Jackson will compete to fill the void left behind by the graduating Remy Martin, Arizona State’s starting point guard of the last three seasons. His competition includes returning guard Holland Woods and Luther Muhammad, who transferred into the program last season from Ohio State, but sat out the year because he was not granted an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA.

Thursday’s news follows a string of commitments from the transfer portal for head coach Bobby Hurley. In recent weeks, Robert Morris forward A.J. Bramah and Boston College guard Jay Heath have joined the program.

There are still roster holes to fill, and depth to bolster, but this is another example of Hurley’s prowess in the transfer portal. Expect a fresh but experienced Sun Devil squad this winter. `
