Bruzon, the top QB in the state of Arizona, is a major dark horse commitment for Arizona State, after leading Liberty to back-to-back Open titles

The top quarterback in the state of Arizona who guided Liberty high school from Peoria to an Open Division state championship — comprised of the eight best teams in Arizona — has announced his commitment to Arizona State as a preferred walk on.

Navi Bruzon, the 2023 Ed Doherty Award winner, given to the state’s top high school football player, also secured his second straight Gatorade Player of the Year award.

He was also named Max Preps Arizona Player of the Year, two-time Regional Player of the Year and All-State Player of the Year. Now, he will add to the Sun Devils quarterback room.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound quarterback stacked up impressive numbers his senior year, throwing for 3,287 yards for 32 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. He also ran for 972 yards and 21 scores en route to a 12-1 season that ended with him hoisting the trophy.

Despite Bruzon’s resume, the only Division I programs that extended interest were Northern Arizona and the University of San Diego.

It may have worked out for Bruzon, as his father, Ivan, works for the university while his mother is an alumnus. ASU tight ends coach Jason Mohns is already familiar with Bruzon, too, as he had to game plan against him in the 2022 Open Division title while coaching Saguaro of Scottsdale in 2022.
