A lot of runs
The Sun Devils established quite the run differential for their all-time series against Grand Canyon (15-19). No. 13 Arizona State (22-9) run-ruled the Antelopes 21-0 on Tuesday in the programs’ first-ever matchup.
A lot happened in Arizona State’s 13-run second inning. Maddi Hackbarth homered to bring her season total to 15, and she now only needs six more to break the programs single-season record.
She also had a two-run double in the second. Alynah Torres hit a three-run home run as well.
Nine different Sun Devils drove in runs. There were notable plays such as Jordyn VanHook’s three-run blast, Emily Cazares first career hit as well, while Halle Harger and Makenna Harper combined for seven RBIs. Kindra Hackbarth scored four times and stole two bases, too.
Additionally, pitching matched the offense’s output. Allison Royalty returned to the circle and pounded the zone following her season-high five walks allowed to Utah on April 2.
She struck out nine GCU batters, including all three in the final frame. Royalty surrendered one hit and only walked two in her seventh win of the season.
Stanford (22-8, 3-3 Pac-12) comes to Tempe for a four-game set after getting swept by Arizona. The series starts on Friday with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. local time.
