Baltimore Ravens Announce They’ve Released A Running Back

September 15, 2021 by The Spun

No team has dealt with more attrition this season so far than the Baltimore Ravens, particularly at the running back position.

J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards were supposed to be the Ravens’ one-two punch on the ground this year. Unfortunately for Baltimore, each suffered a season-ending injury before the season even began. That left the Ravens with just Ty’Son Williams and Trenton Cannon. Baltimore then went out and signed Latavius Murray after the Saints released him.

The Ravens made their running back situation clear on Monday Night Football yesterday evening. Williams got nine carries and had 65 yards rushing and a score. Murray had 10 carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. That left Cannon to receive just two carries in which he picked up only five yards.

The Ravens, as a result, are moving on from Cannon. They released the 27-year-old running back on Tuesday.

“Baltimore also released running back Trenton Cannon, who played nine offensive snaps and 15 special teams snaps in the season opener,” the team announced.

We have also released RB Trenton Cannon.

The good news for the Ravens is that their rushing attack can work with plug-and-play backs. The bad news is without Dobbins and Edwards, Baltimore’s ceiling is probably lower than expected.

The Ravens suffered a tough overtime loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. Lamar Jackson had 235 yards and one touchdown through the air and 86 yards on the ground. Baltimore’s rushing attack was good, but not great.

The Ravens need better play out of Williams and Murray to have a shot at the AFC North title this season.
